Check out our home page for two important climate justice and community solar events coming up
In addition to our two community solar gardens below that are installed and in the interconnection application process with Xcel,
we are excited to begin our collaboration with CANDO (Central Area Neighborhood Development Organization), Lyndale Neighborhood Association, and other partners.
We will create an innovative model for equitable, accessible community solar gardens funded by neighborhoods that bring benefits to the neighborhood and garden subscribers, regardless of whether you rent or own, with no money down, and regardless of income or credit score!
True COMMUNITY solar!
Please fill out this form if you want to join this cohort and live or work in the Central or Lyndale neighborhoods.
And please consider a generous donation to support our critical work in neighborhoods underserved by traditional energy projects!

Two New Minneapolis Community Solar Gardens!
The Second Chance Community Solar Garden (CSG) was developed with local minority business enterprises and Emerge Second Chance Recycling Facility, a nonprofit mattress recycling facility that provides job training for formerly incarcerated citizens. We thank Emerge Second Chance Recycling Facility, Renewable Energy Partners (our certified minority enterprise solar developer) and S3 Solar Service Systems (a black-owned solar company). Emerge will receive 18kw of free renewable energy with the option to buy pay as you go shares. The Second Chance CSG provides options for pay-up-front and pay-as-you-go subscribers, who can participate regardless of income, credit score, or whether they rent or own their own home. Anyone who pays their own Xcel electricity bill and lives in Hennepin County or an adjacent county can participate and save!
Second Chance CSG is full at the moment. Please fill out the North High CSG Subscriber List to sign up to become a subscriber depending on available space or be put on the waiting list. |
Minneapolis Climate Action is partnering with Renewable Energy Partners and its president, Jamez Staples (a North High alum) to sign families up to get subscriptions in the community solar garden. When you subscribe to the North High CSG, you can save on your electric bill and pay as you go for your subscription. There is no subscription fee or upfront money needed! You pay a small amount for the subscription each month and get a bill credit that is always higher than your payment. It’s a win-win for your pocketbook and the planet! Join the sign-up list that will prioritize families with lower incomes. Anyone who pays their own Xcel electricity bill and lives in Hennepin County or an adjacent county can participate and save!

What is Community Solar?
A community solar project is a solar power plant whose electricity is shared by more than one property.
The primary purpose of community solar is to allow members of a community the opportunity to share the benefits of solar power even if they can't or don't want to install solar panels on their property. Participants benefit from the electricity generated by the community solar farm, which costs less than the price they would ordinarily pay to their utility. |
